DVIA Project 3: Earthquake Map

Earthquakes frequently occur all across the world, but these locations are often very remote; or beneath the ocean. Most earthquakes occur close to tectonic plate boundaries and/or fault lines because of movement in the earth's crust. Tectonic plate interaction zones have various associated types of geological mechanisms , such as convergent, divergent and transform boundaries, where plates move toward, away from, or lateral to each other. Various seismological sensing stations exist in order to track these events. The United States Geolocial Survey (USGS) makes this data available to the public through their web interface. Recent seismic events are shown below. Feel free to use the map (zoom + pan), marker popups and slider to explore these events.
